Kimberly and Carlos found out on August 1st that they were expecting after 4 previous losses since 2017, their first loss was a spontaneous miscarriage and they never knew why that happened. Their next two losses after 2017 were chemical pregnancies. In July 2018, they found out they were pregnant again with a boy.

At their 12-week scan they found out that he had CDH, (congenital diaphragmatic hernia) meaning the stomach contents were compressing the chest & lungs, since it was no longer separated by the diaphragm. They were devastated and so lost. They had never heard of CDH before and everyone was in total shock. After testing and lots of hard decisions and due to the severity of his CDH they made the heartbreaking decision to not continue with the pregnancy and lost their boy on October 29, 2018.

They decided to take a break and allow themselves to heal as best they could. They got married on October 18, 2019 and went on their honeymoon in early 2020. They were shocked to learn they were pregnant again on August 1st, 2020. It was such an awesome surprise and felt so positive yet nervous for this pregnancy because of everything they went through previously.

On December 2, 2020 they went to their 20-week anatomy scan and yet again they were faced with the unbelievable. Their baby boy has severe left sided CDH just like before. They were referred to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where their MRI, Fetal Echo and 2-hour ultrasound showed severe left sided CDH at 22%.
